Fiddyment
One of the little details I appreciate about DDO is that there’s no piecemeal clown outfit mismatching going on. The only visual parts of your gear — that show up on your avatar — are your main piece of armor, your helmet (which can be toggled off with the “/showhelmet off” command) and weapons. Although there is a potential for disappointment from those who want to see every little thing they’ve equipped, the upside is that your character has a very coherent, unified look. And since DDO’s Eberron setting calls for a visual distinctiveness from most other fantasy settings, a lot of the armor I’ve seen in the game is wonderfully weird, different and intriguing — kind of like a mash-up between medieval armor, steampunk outfits, and jungle explorer gear.
Case in point, my bard Fiddyment, who obtained this +2 something-or-other light armor yesterday and feels completely saucy wearing it:

Short, pointy and deadly

Close-up on her face (dragonmarked and scarred), pink hair and dagger bandolier

Everyone needs to carry a bottle of poison. Am I right or what?

Fiddy taking a nap. Aww. So cute.

I will be giving this a try, of course that’s if they follow the same model in Europe.
A quality MMO on F2P… I can’t see how Runescape could compete.
Love the poison bottle on the back!
I have an easy question on dragonmarks. Is the mark only usable through a feat? Or is there something you need to do to unlock a dragonmark?
The ddo wiki and compendium really did not help me understand that very well.
Dragonmarks have to be unlocked through a super-easy level 1 quest, after which you are granted a free feat respec if you choose and the ability to choose a dragonmark as a feat. Each race can only choose certain types of dragonmarks — for instance, halflings can get the healing dragonmarks (free heals). Dragonmarks come in three ranks — you have to get the first two to get the third — each of which take up a feat slot. So 3 feats for 3 dragonmark abilities. Some people use them, some consider the trade of feats too unbearable. I haven’t seen tons of people with them, but they’re not unknown.
Thank you
That is going to be a hard choice. Racial based and takes up a feat…
If you go dragonmarks, you’re going all the way, so you have to plan on three feats as standard. The best ones are always the third one (teleportation, greater healing, etc.). It’s generally accepted that the halfling’s healing dragonmarks are the best, especially for classes that can’t normally heal, but people have a very hard time working them into builds. I actually respecced out of dragonmarks today, but I’ll save that discussion for another day.
