“They’d have been better off calling the game Care Bears vs PvP Nutjobs Online.”

So is that what Aion is going to breakdown to: carebear PvE folks and hardcore PvPers?

From what I’ve gathered … a majority of WoW folk are major PvE players who revel in this kind of content. They typically don’t PvP and stick to the environmental content … quests, raids, etc. Mind you, this is a majority not all.

Then there are those who played DAOC, who might now play WAR or Darkfall who revel in PvP or RvR against other players. WAR tried to have both and the PvE wasn’t as good as WoW and there was too much focus on PvP … so those folks left. And many PvPers wish WAR had more PvP and less PvE.

Aion is supposed to be a mix of that. I can see it now … the road from 1 – 25 will be paved with PvE goodness. Yea! There is PvP but limited to duals and the training arenas. So players won’t necessarily need to take part. Then to get the best gear, the PvE crowd will need to enter the Abyss and while trying to PvE in there they will get ganked by PvPers and cry fowl.

Does sound like a nasty recipe. I actually like a mix of both but for both sides of this there could be some disappointment.

Most of those people are camping out to avoid being logged out while afk since private stores let you stay logged in for 8 hours+ without being booted out. Just an observation.

  3. I love that screenshot :) Kinda sums everything up perfectly hehe.

  4. Heh, you might as well have taken that picture on the server I play on. That spot was so spammed with chat bubbles it wasn’t even funny. Most people are only doing it to keep themselves logged in but the plus side is that sometimes you’ll find some great deals on gear from these shops. I know that I priced things down there because at that stage of the game you have no access to the auction house and an inventory that gets filled up quickly.

If you bought Aion thinking you’d never pvp, you didn’t do any research on it.

I think the stereotype that WoW players are pve only is largely because of the structure of the game, where you rarely if ever pvp while leveling, and then don’t need to pvp to do anything.

So you get a bunch of carebears who hit 80, go jump into a bg with a bunch of sharks, get destroyed like no other, feel like shit, and end up with some massive pvp prejudice (i.e. Tobold). WoWs design makes it very easy to never pvp, and never have to go through the pain of fighting people with more skill, experience, and gear to get to the noughty center of pvp joy.

As far as early pvp in the game, people in my legion have been getting sporadic pvp kills in their teens. Not sure of the circumstances at all, just chatter on vent.

  6. Toxic, that really doesn’t change much. You get sharks at every level, and it would just create Tobolds a lot earlier, maybe making them quit early on. A lot of people just don’t like PvP, and I really don’t think Aion is so big as it is because of a widespread desire for it.

I forsee the game moving to more of a split, with carebear and PvPer tracks.

The games been out for a year already in the east. People over there would have to have the demand for more PvE before we see any sort of change like that. Plus, the whole story is based around this war between the factions.

“A lot of people just don’t like PvP, and I really don’t think Aion is so big as it is because of a widespread desire for it.”

How many subs did WAR initially get? Can’t say there’s not a widespread desire for a more PvP centric MMO.

Not saying it can’t/won’t happen, just doubtful.

looks like the front of Mos Eisley starport.

I can make all but NPCs in that scene disappear completely or just the chat bubbles with a simple keystroke ::shrug:: People seem so hard up to find something wrong with Aion, and its usually OMG server queues!!!. In game, you can turn off chat bubbles, so this pic is funny and a reality, but easily dealt with.

The personal shops are pretty fun though.

  10. Slurms, not really. A thing I’ve noticed at least in F2P Korean ones is how separate the western and eastern versions are, sometimes to the point of different providers actually releasing or maintaining the western versions. I don’t think it would be too tough for region-specific variants to emerge.

The problem though is that is it really PvP that drove WAR subs, or a lot of different reasons altogether? Same with Aion, are people really into it for the Abyss, or is it also hype, boredom with WoW, etc? I guess we have to wait and see until players level high enough.
