The Holy Moly Trinity
So without a major MMO release until early next year (although an expansion or two should get a bit of publicity glory this quarter), a lot of eyes have turned to what I’m calling the “Holy Moly” of RPGs — Torchlight, Borderlands and Dragon Age Origins. All three are getting pretty dang good reviews, and offer a bit of a diversion to folks in our line of gaming who might be a bit burned out on the MMORPG grind.
With NaNoWriMo, my gaming time next month will be even less than usual, so my offline priority will be with Dragon Age. I’m almost numb from the excitement of this title, and don’t even want to think of how my sanity might suffer if Amazon ships too late. I’m quite enjoying “The Stolen Throne” DA novel, if only to get some of the backstory and lore of the world, and while I hear the flash game is pretty sweet, I really haven’t had the time for it.
So that leaves Borderlands and Torchlight. Borderlands is going on my Christmas wish list, mostly because it’s the game I feel I can wait on. If it’s good now, it’ll be good later, and I’m cool with that. Depending on how next month goes, I might pony up for Torchlight, especially considering its early rave reviews and the fact it can run on pretty much anything.
Aw, let’s just have some fun with quotes about Torchlight:
“The game is the most involving, immersive Action/RPG of its kind that I’ve played, and I HIGHLY recommend you at least pick it up.”
“Torchlight shouldn’t just be a blip on your radar, it should be a massive unidentified mass that will grab hold of you and never let go.”
“I’ll say that again: my dog summons skeleton archers. He’s such a good boy”

The one game you can play with one hand and eat lunch with the other.. All the Diablo II days are back again.
and here i thought the holy trinity was the 3 classes of Torchlight
I’m gonna try to get my hands on Borderlands today or tomorrow, because I’m a sucker for Diablo-style games.
I’m still not seeing the reason for Torchlight’s hype. It looks very similar to Fate, which was okay for a time-waster.
Torchlight is pretty cheap too, so i might check it out. Dragon Age…I dunno. Something not clicking with me on that, and Borderlands…nah more gun stuff.
Looking forward to Torchlight too. Can’t beat the price either!
Also excited about Dragon Age but I’m not trusting the terrible UK postal service with it when it comes out
Either way, slow times for MMORPGs, good times for RPGs!
I’ve got a review to write on Torchlight… if I can pull myself away from it long enough. I’m in love.
Awesome JoBildo!
