Fallen Earth: My Arsenal

GA-6 Sidearm (light pistol) x2

  • 10 round clip, 32.4 DPS, 42 pistol skill
  • Small and puny, nonetheless these guys were my main guns for the bulk of sector 1 after I ditched zip guns.  They can pump out a lot of bullets quickly, and two guns = 20 shots without reloading.

GA-10 Service Pistol (medium pistol) x1

  • 10 round clip, 40.7 DPS, 66 pistol skill
  • I keep one of these around to consume any medium ammo I might find along the way.  No sense it going to waste!

GA-40 Magnum (heavy pistol) x2

  • 10 round clip, 53.2 DPS, 90 pistol skill
  • I’m making the transition to heavy ammo, simply because these bad boys cannot be denied.  Go ahead, make my day!

Sawn-Off Skullblaster One (12 gauge)

  • 2 round clip, 23.3 DPS, 45 pistol skill
  • Weak DPS, but (a) it’s the only sawed-off shotgun I have, and (b) shotguns are awesome.  I save up any 12 gauge ammo I find and then use this against weaker mobs.  Headshot FTW!

ZI Kommando KM-5 (light submachine gun)

  • 30 round clip, 78.3 DPS, 90 pistol skill
  • My new pride and joy, this will help me eat up all of that light ammo I’ve saved for a rainy day.

  1. I posted this elsewhere so here it goes again

Much of the hype around this game comes from spreadsheet lovers. Your mileage may vary. I really saw nothing compelling in it or its terribad combat engine. BUT

    and a big BUT

Something kept me playing and eventually I came to a luke warm agreement with myself that if this game can make it over something that is total garbage like Champions Online then I am pulling for Fallen Earth all the way

  2. ‘Wonder why western MMOs invest so little in graphics. This game looks like PS2/Xbox generation. ‘

I prefer Fallen Earths graphics to the like of Aions little girly fairy graphics, Fallen Earths graphics while not cutting edge do the job and make the game feel very atmospheric.

  3. Wotcha everyone,

Old Codger moment: I remember when EGA graphics were the norm, and VGA was this new fangled proto-realism. Yet games were still made, and they were still good.

Games that look fantastic aren’t necessarily great games, and games that don’t look fantastic aren’t necessarily bad games.

Thankfully, gameplay is what makes a game, and Fallen Earth has it in spades.

As for the gun porn? Hmm. Might have to upgrade my zip guns, and blag me some proper shooters…

    Cheers,
    Hawley,

  4. @Hudson: Im going to have to disagree with you there, im pretty sure that the reason this game gets hyped is not beause of “spreadsheet love” but for for the fact that this game has soul and crafting. Everyone ive talked to about this game that plays it says the same thing. They are all refuges from the tripple A titles and to them FE feels like comming home. They login and they dont feel this immediate urge to level, instead they chill out, craft a bit, rp a bit, maybe even *gasp* pvp a bit. Fair enuff, this game wont be for everyone, but in this current mmo ‘make me like wow’ game market, this game feels like a breath of fresh air.

@xabbott: Im playing this game fully cranked and its quite beautifull in its own way. But more important than that, the design of it gives it a very unique feeling. True enough, the engine could use some love and opt. and some of the textures wouldnt be hurt by some love. But in the end, the developers of FE concentrated on the things that really mattered, gameplay. You would have to look no furter than aion for the reverse of that.

  5. The sawn off shotgun is weaker than a crappy pistol?

    Noooooooo.

I am too brainwashed by first person shooters to ever accept that.

  6. I actually kind of dig the combat engine compared to the mainstream MMOs where you simply tab to your target and its locked in. I can see how it is frustrating/irritating/unpleasant for those who dont like the additional complexity of having to worry about aiming save for actually facing their target. The added in FPS features that deviate from the standard MMO fare is a plus for me.

I like the idea that you can level to the cap solely from crafting if you so choose. A guest on LifeNet a few episodes ago, gained 4-5 levels mostly this way. An additional plus is being able to do otherthings while your crafting queue churns away. The things you make worth it in that they are mostly better than the rewards/drops you get for your ‘level’.

The graphics are pretty appropriate. They are gritty and are pretty detailed to me with everything turned on. I can get some gripes when the graphics are turned down a bit and the more detailed textures are not used, the ground cover is thinned out and the rendering depth is chopped down. Overall I am pretty pleased. I am also impressed with the speed they have done improvements to the graphics system as well in terms of performance.

I like how its up to you to choose your own development in the form of how you spend your AP into skills. While in some ways you are limited (by sheer time) in what you can do, you have a large palatte of combinations to choose from. Its all up to you. There are a few things I dont like but its more related to information you can find on how skills/mutations/etc will or will not overlap and there is no way to get back misspend points. Both will be addressed over time, the latter indicated by the devs and in a limited scope.

There are a bunch of other things to talk about, but work calls!

  7. “I actually kind of dig the combat engine compared to the mainstream MMOs where you simply tab to your target and its locked in.”

That’s one of the things I liked about FE, but I felt that it was very “stiff” given what they were aiming to accomplish (get it? Aiming? haha)

The graphics are still one of my sticking points, I dont think they are “bad”. I loved the environment, but the character models didn’t seem to blend in. But more than that, I thought the animations, much like the aiming controls” feel stiff and unrealistic.

For me, these problems could be overlooked given the rest of the games qualities. I freeking loved the time I had with FE and will most likely pick it up at some point. But right now I’m enjoying the hell out of myself in LotRO and the various other games that occupy my time.

  8. @xabbott, Fallen Earth’s graphics are fine, Syp just doesn’t have a l33t gaming rig like mine, which is so powerful I get to refer to it as a “rig”.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go wish I had any money left over.

  9. Graphically, there is nothing more enjoyable then getting a melee kill and watching the corpse bounce around like a superball. Glitch: Yes. Funny: Hell Yes.

@Ethic. Find me in game, I will make you a pistol.

  10. @ Syp, I just hit level 5 and picked up the pistol book 1…… i take it I have to buy short barrel and gun part books? as its asking for things I cant craft :( its an expensive thing to buy. Anyway i havent seen any books to make ammo (bullets for pistols) is this still sold by a ballistic trainer?

Hows about you do a nice post on the crafting sytem speciffically pistol making to help me out? Pleeeeeaaaase!!!!

  11. I’d have to check in game, but to make a pistol you have to make three or four parts — the grip, action, barrel and maybe something else. As for ammo, an inexpensive way to get those crafting books is to do the quests in one of the crafting starter towns (like Midway), which will give you a book for free.

  12. yeah Im starting to wish I’d picked a crafting town as my starting area :( I’ll possibly move to midway after I’ve completed the quests in terrance
