The Glass

Final Fantasy XIV announces that they’ll be extending an extra free month of play for the launch crowd, a move which is almost unheard of in the MMO industry.

The Glass Half-Full Crowd: Wow, Square Enix is putting customers first by addressing major concerns and giving us enough play time to properly evaluate these changes!

The Glass Half-Empty Crowd: Wow, Square Enix sees the writing on the wall in the form of terrible reviews and is throwing a Hail Mary in a last-ditch effort to keep players from jumping ship, while the company frantically patches up the holes!

The Looking Glass: It’s not Penny’s boat!

  1. In either case, at least it shows that SE is listening. I think a lot of people expected them to just bull ahead without paying attention to the naysayers.

I have to wonder how much good the free month will do though. A lot of people who don’t like it feel that way because of a lot more than just interface lag and the market wards. Short of making the game much more in-line with other mainstream releases, I don’t know they’ll save too many of the people jumping ship. As much as I like it, this is a niche game if ever there was one.

Still, it’s a good gesture and I’ll happily take that free month :-)

PS: Yay! Akismet took me off their blacklist!

I am really enjoying playing FFXIV and an extra 30 days is nice. I do expect some problems along the way, but what can you expect when you stray so far from the WoW formula.

Hopefully people will give this game a little time. I do think it is not for everyone, and if its not for you enjoy what ever MMO you try next :)

As for me, see you in Eorzea!
