Bio Break

SypTV

Last night, one of my cohorts at Massively cajoled me into broadcasting my LOTRO play session on MassivelyTV’s livestream broadcast.  I’m game to help out, but I still don’t quite understand the appeal of someone watching what I play, especially when they could be playing it themselves for free.

Furthermore, I was at a loss what to do.  It’s one thing to play for yourself, but when you have 30+ people looking over your shoulder, it changes things.  Do you just grind mobs and go through routine quests?  That felt a bit boring to me, but I didn’t have any huge dungeon runs prepared either.

So instead, I took my audience on a partial tour of Middle-earth, hitting some of the more scenic points including my house.  Part of the deal of doing the livestream is to narrate it, so I flipped on my motormouth switch and just babbled about nonsense for a couple hours.

This led me to engage in a long-held habit of mine, which is making up songs about routine things I do and see.  Sure, it entertains my kids now, but just you wait when they get to be 13.

Apparently, one of my songs about shrews — which started when I saw the shrew statue at my house — became something of a weird hit with the listeners, and a few folks at Massively and Turbine.  According to Twitter, a couple Turbine employees who shall remain nameless decided to do a rendition of The Shrew Song for their boss.

Yup.  That’s it, right there.  My 15 minutes of internet fame has come and gone, folks.  I’m the Shrew Song Guy.

  3. Don’t worry, you made me want to check out the game once I finish my essay :)

  4. And was this livestream recorded for posterity???

  5. Does this mean I can go around saying things like, “I knew the Shrew Song Guy before he sold out!”? :)

  6. Syp

    It was not recorded.

    THANK GOD.

I actually don’t even remember how it goes, other than chanting “Shrew” a few times.

  7. My daughter heard you sing it and could probably sing it for you, to refresh your memory on the words. She even sang it for her friends at school, lol.
