Picture of the Day

This is from a project a guy did where he took tons of pictures of people in malls in 1989, and is now putting them together as a book. You can look at several of these pictures on Facebook.
Ikari Warriors was AWESOME.

Oh MAN! Those are gold, every single one of them. As creepy as the idea is that this guy was photographing people, and as silly as people looked, it really brings me back.
That hair! Those bangs! Acid-washed pegged jeans and baggy shirts! Neon colors that don’t exist in nature…omgosh…
Looks so silly these days, but in those days it was COOL.
I particularly liked the shot with Tape World for some reason.
High-top sneakers!
OH DEAR!!! Mall culture….brings me back.
The lablescar blog is an awesome resource for this with malls in general. If you want some serious retro though, hit the eighties catalogs at http://www.wishbookweb.com/
Someone digitized a ton of sears catalogs back then, and the 84-86 might make some of your US readers nostalgic as hell.
Jeez , I remember those days. If you were any good you could play all day long for a quarter.
Very cool – A local HS school student in Crystal Lake, IL brought a video recorder to the Crystal Point mall in 1987 – no way you could do that now. Notice you can see peoples faces, no cells, no texting.
