SOE Substitutions

Since SOE’s services — including all of its MMOs — will be down through the weekend (at the very least), I’m stepping up to do my part and help out bored players who may be fishing around for a substitute game to fill up some time (and without spending any money on a sub).  Most astute gamers will already know of these, so consider this a public service to those who’ve rarely stepped outside of SOE’s comforting bubble.

  • EverQuest players could check out a few of the older MMOs that have free trials, such as Ultima Online, Asheron’s Call and Dark Age of Camelot
  • EverQuest 2 players could see what the free-to-play competition is like over in Lord of the Rings Online
  • Vanguard players could form a support group (I kid! I kid!).  Er… RuneScape?
  • DCUOers could head over to Champions Online to take out their super-rage on mutants and robotic cowboys
  • Planetsiders could be easily sated by Global Agenda
  • Star Wars Galaxies folks could visit their scifi brethren in Anarchy Online
  • Free Realmers might do well to spend a weekend in Wizard101

  1. You were supposed to point them all to rift and get them hopelessly addicted :P

  2. I would suggest that Vanguard players head over to LotRO since that’s a nice big open world. It’s a sandboxy as a major Western fantasy MMO gets these days.

The EQ2 players should take up a WoW free trial . That way they can see the game that beat their own game to be the premier fantasy MMO. As a homework assignment, they can try and explain why :)

  3. Just been told that Alienware are giving away 7 day trial codes for Rift, so the SoE players can give that a try without shelling out:

If Trion are smart, they’ll find out where they can buy a database of 25 million SoE players to email them a similar offer :p

“If Trion are smart, they’ll find out where they can buy a database of 25 million SoE players to email them a similar offer :p”

That would be unethical and potentially illegal… But placing RIFT ads where SOE players go for updates on this outage would be targeted marketing well within competitive best practice :p
