My buddy played AC for a while after it’s release and would relate his adventures to me. One thing he told me about (which he thought unique to his server) had to do with some event with a massive raid boss that wandered the world, the entire world covered in dark red clouds and fire. The event itself was not unique, but how it was handled by the player base was. On most servers, the guilds would unite to take the big thing down. On my friend’s server, a few guilds merged together, declaring themselves a cult of the demon…and they PKed any players that got too near the raid boss.
The event went on for quite a while longer on that server than any other…as the cult’s numbers swelled, no organized effort by the remaining guilds was enough to take the boss AND all of those players. He explained that the mods ultimately stepped in and just despawned the boss.
You don’t see stuff like that in any of the MMOs I’ve played. I wish I could.
Thade, that sounds like the Shard of the Herald event. On one of the the servers (Thistledown), players managed to set up a round-the-clock vigil to prevent anyone from breaking (killing) the Shard and releasing the Ultimate Bad Guy.
There’s a write-up here: http://www.ethblue.com/acpaper/page2.htm
And a video of how the developers concluded it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnj9afinaYI
Yeah it was on TD. I played there at the time, but was not high enough to PK, nor did i want to lose my items, there was no PK lite at the time. They were supposed to get a statue as a trophy that was unique to that server.
