Quote of the Day: Trait revamp

“Between the level increase to unlock traits (seriously, waiting until level 30 is terrible. If it had to have been changed, it should have been to level 20, at the highest), and the requirements to then unlock traits, I see this as being something that is more likely to hinder and put off new players, rather than make it easier, as was the intention.”

  1. Absolutely. While I think that there may be a small group of longtime MMO vets who may appreciate the new, stately pace (I might be one of them – going to have to start a new character and find out) I strongly suspect that the vast majority of players will find it dull, slow, tedious and grindy.

They have metrics to show them how long new players play, how soon and where they log out and never log in again etc. I would guess that after a month or two of looking at those numbers we might see some changes.

On the other hand, if the Megaserver thing takes off, I wouldn’t discount the extreme boost large, concentrated populations will give to leveling speed. It may be that everyone will just end up running around in a big gang and leveling too fast to notice they aren’t getting any new abilities.

  2. It is odd, why they went with that spread and not a nice even 1 point every 5 levels from 15 to 80. It is likely that they were more worried about the supposed gap previously after level 60 when builds had mostly come together at that level and the remaining 20 points were filling out the lesser part of a build. I’m not going to be surprised if/when they change it again.

  3. Just went and looked at the complete list of trait unlocks, a lot of them are really bad, including lots of map completion, personal story (one master trait requires ‘the source of orr’), there is some unlocked by dungeon story mode, and some in WvW including one to complete the Obsidian Sanctum JP. Some of them will just turn players off the game, so much for creating an incentive to explore the world, this will frustrate many new players.

  4. Players asked for a trait system more alike GW1. And again players get what they asked for….
