WildStar’s launch: The bliss

s2Even a rocky launch and class indecision wasn’t enough to dampen my enthusiasm with WildStar’s launch.  Let’s walk through the highlights of the launch weekend:

At least from my perspective, WildStar ran terrific.  I logged and loaded in quick, and had little problems running around, fighting, and completing quests with tons of others in the area.

Unlike some of the realm-first 50s that I’ve seen, I’ve been really taking my time to savor the game, get used to it, and not push just for pushing’s sake.  I know the feeling of the rat race will disappate after another week or so.

Part of taking my time means that I’m not rushing past the dialogue and lore entries — and there’s a lot here to plunder.  Plus, there are great little cutscenes and the use of phasing that helps to present an ongoing narrative of sorts.  My mind’s tracking what’s going on, at least, instead of getting disconnected just to finish tasks and grind mobs.

Circles — sorts of Guilds Jr. — are really simple to set up and great ways to get connected to several communities.  I’m part of two circles on Evindra (Exile) and was just enjoying talking with people without stressing too much about selecting a single guild.

Overall, I’m enjoying the entire package.  There are several fun quests that I’ve bumped into, including one that had everyone super-jumping all over the place like we were hopped up on Gummi Beary Juice(tm).  I’m also really intrigued with the Mordesh starting area and the whole mystery that’s being hinted at here.

There’s also just scads to do, which is great because I’m not worrying about leveling, just having a good time.  The combat’s also terrific — just challenging enough so that it’s not a cakewalk, but not too difficult that it’s making every fight a slog.  Both of the classes that I’m playing look really cool while fighting, and I appreciate getting a quick stun early on to help interrupt enemy telegraphs.

So many other little things, like the incredible music, the lush visuals, and the general atmosphere that are drawing me in.  Sure, there are a few things that I’d change, but on the whole I’m quite pleased with what I’m seeing so far.

If anyone wants to hit me up, I’m Syp and Syppi on Evindra Exile.  Happy gaming!

  1. Yeah, I saw someone had posted the Realm-first Warrior about 7 p.m. CDT last night. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me, but whatever.
