The Secret World “On Track”

FunCom recently posted their 2009 Q3 presentation, and of personal interest were a number of statements concerning the upcoming The Secret World:

  • Over 200,000 people signed up for their “Secret Societies”
  • Estimated 3-4 million people have seen the videos, website or read related articles
  • Their opinion is that TSW is tracking at this stage in its development better than AoC, WAR, Aion and others were
  • The setting is significantly different than the bulk of fantasy MMOs
  • 90 people are working on it
  • They’re currently working on the core game, with PvP, dungeons and playgrounds in the works
  • “Major milestone” by March 1 – “Vertical slice; core systems and gameplay in place”

Very good to hear. I’m actually looking forward to this one more than TOR even (though that comes a very close second). I’ve even gotten to the point where I subscribed to Age of Conan – a game I have no intention of playing – just to take advantage of the guaranteed TSW closed beta access Funcom are offering atm. I’m just praying that it turns out better than their last two. I wasn’t a big fan of either :-\

Looking forward to this one, although part of me suspects it could have just as well been another game in the Longest Journey / Dreamfall series. I’m wondering how much of the multiplayer experience will be segmented.

Either way, I think it’s likely to say I’ll play it, just depends on how long I will stick with it.

This seems like an awful play at trying to say, “Well, we’re doing SOMETHING right.” Too many people are still angry at them for this to get anyone to rally behind them.

Good to hear. I’m one of those 200K (I think. The sign-up page was confusing enough that I can’t remember exactly what I signed up for).

Waiting for this one with cautious, optimistic expectations.

sorry but i really cant understand how anyone can take Funcom seriously. just like with AOC they are amazing with keeping up the hype, doing pretty previews and stuff, but they showed absolute lack of understanding how a proper mmo rpg system should be built.
thus no trust to them, no matter how pretty is that what they show.

So glad this title seems to have survived… It is oozing a style and art direction that feels quite refreshing and adult. I’m really excited to see what comes next.

I hope it’s shardless and we can group based on our evil intents for the world.

Though, probably noone will group with me regardless ;p

$10 says that come release day and the servers overload and fail, they’ll still use the “We weren’t prepared for the amount of people who were interested in the game” excuse.

    I’ll group with you Arb.

By group, I mean hunt and by with I mean shotgun your Dragon loving rear in the face.

    But other than that, ❤

I hope they don’t screw this one up.

There’s been a great deal to like in their previous offerings but somehow they’ve never really made a game that plays smooth.

Like the others this looks heads and shoulders above the competition at the vaporware stage.

Hmm is it just me or hasanyone else had enough of the hype games get only for them to be a load of rubbish? I’d love nothing more than Funcom to prove me wrong but after the nightmare of AoC I just dont trust them.

Oh I’m one of those 200,000 by the way, it was quite a funky questionaire

Right there with ya – they can hype themselves into the ground, not a lot is going to purge the bad taste AoC left in our mouths.

(That said, I did do the questionnaire, but didn’t really understand the results. “You are magenta piecrust unicorn! Enjoy our delishus hype SOON!”)

Maybe 3rd time is the charm?

I sure hope so. The premise for this MMO is something that I am excited to play.

Let’s hope they don’t screw it up.
