Okay, that didn’t work. Fingers! Pay attention! I need at least nine of you to function right now — left thumb, you have the day off.
I’ve actually had a fair chunk of time this past week to play MMOs, which was a nice surprise following a quiet birthday weekend (oh, you didn’t know it was my birthday? Then I guess you have some shopping to do to make up for it, don’t you?). In no particular order, here’s what I’ve been doing in games:
Uninstalled. I’m sorry, I think that GW just will never stick with me. I like it, intellectually, but there’s a host of little things about the gameplay — the combat, mostly — that feels off and non-compelling. I also have no interest in blitzing through missions with groups, and that’s all anyone seems to do. GW2, you better top this experience!
Star Wars Galaxies
Been playing off and on for an upcoming article at Massively, and I’m generally impressed by how full-featured and visually attractive this game is. Well, when you’re indoors at least — the worlds are pretty bare and boring. I’m reminded a lot of Fallen Earth in the feel of it all, which is probably why SWG vets said the same in reverse. I don’t think it’s anything I’ll stick with past the trial, but it’s not the dead, dull game some have made it out to be.
Dungeons and Dragons Online
I started a Warforged Wizard over the weekend and have worked him/her/it up to level 3. I’m really excited about the upcoming patch, especially now that it appears that Wizard summons will be more viable. I do want to try my hand at a Pale Master build with the new negative energy spells, even if the specialty still sucks after the patch. My only complaint is that the Wizard armor on the Warforged looks slightly ridiculous.
I’m in a weird “in between” place right now in LOTRO. I’m in the process of transferring my captain to Landroval (I’m going to lose the awesome Crunch name! Noooo!) to be my main, but that’ll be another week or so before it happens. I’m a little bored with my burglar, which is a decent class but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of “shinies” in her future, and the gamble system is a bit vague and hard to identify when it goes off.
So as part of an interlude, I rolled a Lore-master last night for kicks — an elf LM, to be honest. Me? Elf? WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO? Let me explain: I like variety in my characters, so I don’t want two of any race/gender combination. I already have a female man (that’s weird to say) with my captain, and I’m sorry, but male characters look ridiculous in the LM robes. Man, those robes bug me, they’re a little TOO short for their own good, like you grew a foot overnight but haven’t gone shopping for a new outfit. So anyway, at least the elf looks aesthetically pleasing as a LM, and in order to swallow my pride of playing one of these dirty beasts, I’ve decided to roleplay her as a self-loathing elf. She can’t help the fact that she was born an elf, but if there was cosmetic surgery in Middle-earth, you just know she’d be the first to round off her ears. As it is, she has a healthy disdain for both elves and nature, which is why she ignores the first and tries to kill as much of the second.
I do love having a pet again, and LOTRO is one of the few MMOs that I know of where staff-fighters actually look cool doing what they do. Whacking people with a big stick is more satisfying to me than a sword or hammer, that’s for sure. *whack* PAY ATTENTION! *whack* I WANT YOUR GOLD AND XP! *whack* STOP CRYING, YOU’LL BE DEAD SOON!
