RP

A thought:

I’d really like to give this roleplay thing a go.

Who’d be with me if I formed an RP guild comprised of characters who’d RP jumping between MMOs, like Sliders or Quantum Leap, always looking for a way home?

Or is there a rule saying that your RP guild has to RP within that game’s set world?

“Where’s my starship, darn it?  …that’s a pony.  I’m a Starfleet Captain, not a hobbit!”

I’ve always been curious exactly how people RP in MMOs, as there comes a point in the conversation and coordination where you just have to start talking about skills, etc. and use real life terms. Coming from a lot of experience in PnP, and even LARP, I’m okay on the RP stuff, but I’ve never really experienced it in-game.

Anyway, I think this is intriguing. Count me in.

    WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG

If you do that, please try to keep your RP solely within your group. Because it’s really horrid for immersion to run into people in the Shire who swear that they’re really starship pilots who got caught in a time warp.

Sounds like a strange, yet awesome idea.

I’d join in if I had more disk space for installing games.

The comment above reminds me of the old movie West World. What could possibly go wrong…go wrong…go wrong.

I do like the idea however; and given sufficient financial resources to do so count me in.

There actually was a Jamestkirk posting threads exactly along these lines in the Emerald Dream (US) forum a while back. The threads were fun to read and very well received, as far as that sort of thing might be well received.

Most RP’ers are sad creatures indeed. Like Morlocks in the tunnels below, you almost pity them.

The concept sounds awesome, but after you sit there and watch them RP, I feel like hanging myself with a drape cord.

You sold me at “Sliders”. I loved that show’s early seasons.

Then again, I don’t have the time to do this… but hey, can I offer a hearty “awesome idea!” and say that I’d be there if I were single and had a surplus of time and money?

My then-fiance did this back in DAoC right before Shadowbane released. The general concensus from experienced roleplayers was that it was a very lame idea.

I now agree with them. It’s on par with meeting the half-dragon-bastard-son-of-Arthas in WoW.
