If you’ve been hanging around Bio Break long enough, you’ll know that one of the themes I’ve thumped over the past years was that it looked as though the fantasy genre was finally heading out the door — or being pushed way into the background — in favor of other genres in the upcoming MMO pool. The Old Republic, The Secret World, Black Prophecy, DCUO, The Agency, etc.
I said that back then because other than Guild Wars 2, I didn’t see a lot of fantasy on the horizon. I have to correct myself now and backtrack on that — it looks like fantasy is still a pretty popular setting for MMO studios, and we’re far from seeing the end of them. TERA, Rift, Final Fantasy 14, the Torchlight MMO, whatever Cryptic is working on (presumably), and pretty much every F2P import out there. So I take my words back. Fantasy will never, ever leave us.
