Pet Peeve of the Day

Any quest that makes me pick flowers.

Really?  Flowers?  Is there anything less heroic?  Perhaps punching a dolphin or knitting.

If a MMO gave me the option during character creation of “This Character Never, Ever Wants To Pick Flowers”, I’d subscribe in a heartbeat.

    Heyyyy, I knit!

I’m guessing you are in Lothlorien right? Next thing you know those elves will have you singing to trees.

The idyllic peacefulness of Lothlorien is quite a contrast to the harshness of Moria before it and Mirkwood after it. I could sense my dwarven character bubbling up in a role-play fit of rage that elves have time to be picking flowers when the orc hordes are massing just across the river.

Rest assured however that the elven armies in Mirkwood have wised up a bit and have abandoned flower picking in favour or more traditional forms of warfare. They have even gotten in a few dwarven siege engineers to provide artillery support.

I wouldn’t mind if the flowers were more aggressive, like some of the elite trees in WoW.

They should spice it up. Have you pick flowers in an area that slightly aggressive. Every minute that you don’t bring a flower back, a random elf succumbs to his wounds! PICK FASTER!!

They could, at the very least, make the flowers a needed ingredient in a potion or spell that will save the world and it only grows in an area guarded by horrible monsters. Running over a grassy hillside worried only about the occasional wolf just doesn’t convey heroism…

Interesting, then, that I tend to agree that the actual gameplay of MMOs tends to be pretty mindless like knitting, a parallel that Spinks noted a while back. 😛

Played Going Rogue yet, Syp? 😉

I won’t spoil it, but there’s a quest in there involving flowers.
