The Architecture of Rift

I still may not be able to articulate it well enough, but my attraction to Rift: Planes of Telara is growing more and more every day.  Another fantasy MMO that reminds me of Warhammer?  Perhaps, but it’s the small things that are winning me over.

Small things like the look of the world, something that few people have even commented on, but I noticed right away when I was checking it out at PAX.  While Trion didn’t create an entirely alien-looking realm, divorced of all fantasy staples, their art team has had a lot of fun creating a fantasy world that has its own flavor apart from other titles.  There are buildings I’ve seen that would look right at home in a Tim Burton fantasy:

Small things, but it goes a long way toward making this a world I want to explore.

YES! I love it allll… except for dwarves. But that’s cuz I hate the things.

They have said that if you can run WoW, you can run this, just not optimized. I don’t even think the final touches on the graphics engine are even finished. May even look slightly better on release 🙂

    Rift fan here. Mhmmmm….

    Eth Mage.

I agree entirely. One dev(I forget his name) said it was familiar but still unique. I couldn’t say it better myself. And your right it does look like a Tim Burton movie still shot!

The lore they are building had been fun to read also. I’m a sucker for high fantasy.
