Quote of the Day

“STO isn’t a bad game, it’s just not the deep, polished experience most people look for in a $15 a month fee. Remove the monthly sub, however, and you have a game that’s far above a lot of other F2P offerings.”

So Star Trek Online’s officially going free-to-play, which nobody doubted in the slightest, especially after Champions.  It’s a good move and I wish the game luck, although I’m doubtful how much time I’ll be able to spend playing it in the future.

I agree; neither Cryptic game should have had a subscription in the first place but both are worth throwing a few bucks at in a F2P model. They would also have been better with a box price but no sub fee, concentrating on less but far more polished content. The subscription model really let these games’ initial offerings down.

I’ll agree on the free to play thing: Neither game shipped with enough content in my opinion to have warranted a subscription fee. I played around with STO for a month after a sale on Steam, and I have to say I enjoyed the game. I’ll definitely get back into it casually, because I always found the space battles to be a nice change of pace.
