I don’t know how all of these people are leveling up lightning-fast in WildStar. I’m still in Celestia after several days and I got a ways to go before I complete the entire map. The good news — for me at least — is that I hit level 14 yesterday and regained access to the game’s much vaunted housing.
I’m starting to be convinced that WildStar isn’t an MMO with an exceptional housing system, but a housing game with an MMO attached. I made a beeline for my housing plot and spent a good chunk of my gaming time yesterday playing around with it.
Like most pre-order folks, it was great having the relatively cheap spaceship house. Plus, why use a normal house when you can have a spaceship? I don’t care if everyone has one; I love mine.
I don’t have a lot of housing items as of yet and am resistant to spending a lot right now on them, but I did make a few strategic purchases.
I splurged for new walls and a floor inside my house to make it look significantly more cheery than the boring steel structure. The inside of the rocket ship house isn’t that big, but there’s room for quite a bit. One of my guildies created a second floor loft, which sounds like a good idea. I did put in the Chua loading arm (back by the door) that I got as a drop.
I’ve only gotten two FABkit drops thus far — the meteor one and a shardspire jumping challenge. I’ve tried the jumping one and am horrible at it, but I’m leaving it up for the time being in case anyone else wants to come try it out.
I bought two more to help give a boost to crafting: a survivalist camp and a garden plot for all of the seeds I’ve been picking up. Heading back to my home every half-hour or so to harvest trees and plant new needs has become absolutely addicting — thank goodness for the quick cooldown on the teleport!
I also didn’t realize this until yesterday, but you can plop down decor items outside as well as in (I had just assumed that the outside was limited to FABkit plugs). I’m not quite sure what I want to do with the outside as of yet, but I have a few ideas. Maybe a maze made out of enlarged tires? Or a ski resort?
Anyway, with the combination of ease, functionality, and flexible decorating, WildStar’s housing is absolutely awesome. It’s what I’ve been wanting from MMO housing for a long, long time, and I think it’s going to be one of the biggest motivations to acquiring new loot and gold. I also love the neighbors idea and the social connections that brings, although someone said that there was a 25-person limit on neighbor lists right now. That seems a little too small, but who knows. Plus, there will be guild housing coming in the future, and I can only imagine what shindigs we’ll throw when that happens.
