How to trick-or-treat in WildStar

Shade’s Eve is upon us in WildStar, and one of the daily quests from the event is to go trick-or-treating at others’ housing plots. Neat idea, although I found the execution a little clunky and confusing, so I thought I’d share a quick guide in case you’re also puzzled.

Basically, you need to collect eight different types of candy as represented by eight different icons above candy bowls (mine is a “bag” type that you see above there). Each plot can only host one type of candy no matter how many types of bowls are placed, so you have to visit eight at a minimum.

The candy types are:

  1. Skulls
  2. Torches
  3. Hearts
  4. Shields
  5. Bags
  6. Amp/Gadget
  7. Bones
  8. Mist

What makes it confusing is that the quest doesn’t include a checklist for which candy types you’ve gotten, just an overall percentage of completion (bad Carbine, bad!). So you have to track which ones you’ve gotten and ones you need.

To place a candy bowl in your plot: Buy one from the housing vendor — scroll down to the “C’s” and buy one of the bowl varieties for 50s.

To trick-or-treat like a pro: Join up with a trick or treat circle (ask in housing zone chat). There’s one on Entity in which everyone puts what candy bowl type they have in their public note. Alternatively, watch zone chat and see what people are advertising for bowl types.

As a new player who just hit 14 and is still working out the how-to’s of housing in Wildstar, thank you for the guide. I was able to join a circle where people note which candy they have on their plot and that made things much easier*. Now I just need to get through that instance! 🙂

A couple of things that were still small issues due to my newbness:

“Buy one from the housing vendor”
This is probably a very simple, basic thing for most players, but I spent a long time looking for a vendor who sold housing items before I realized this was a vendor interface from the controls in the housing plot itself. I have since run into other players experiencing the same confusion when just told to use the housing vendor.

    Visiting other player plots
I am guessing the interface may have changed a bit since some of the wiki info out there was written. It took me some time to figure out how to visit other players. Easiest way was to right-click their names in chat, go to Social lists, and select Visit. When no one was advertising that they had candy available, though, I was sent to a list on Reddit of public plots for use and I did not see how to visit someone just by name. I finally saw the icon to the left of my house plot name and worked things out from there.

(*except for a strange bug where I can’t highlight anything on the social lists when right-clicking a player name in the circle interface; anyone else have this problem or know a fix?)
