Sunday Serenade: James Smith, Parry Gripp, Ghost ‘n’ Ghost, and more!

Time for another Sunday morning dose of random songs that I’ve been listening to this past week! Welcome to Sunday Serenade — now let’s crank the jams up with…

“Cruel Summer” by Kari Kimmel — This cover of Bananarama’s song became famous in the season 2 trailer for Cobra Kai. It’s not as fun as Bananarama but I like the take on it.

“Whiskey” by Bassfolk — Whiskey makes the Irish happy? I’m not sure what the moral is, here.

“No Medical” by DJ Ekl — They call this “glitch hop.” I’m so behind on all of the different musical sub-genres, but whatever it is, it’s got a great beat. This one would be a perfect party track.

“Say You’ll Stay” by James Smith — Perfect to listen to with headphones. OK without them.

“Shelter” by Finneas — The intro here is quiet and smooth, and it really makes you anticipate when the chorus will eventually crash down. It’s catchy enough to sing along to after the first verse, too.

“Lazy Sunday” by Ghost’n’Ghost — Sometimes you just need light ‘n’ fluffy fun.

“I’m a Burrito” by Parry Gripp — It’s about TIME this delicacy got its own theme song!

“Ease Your Mind” by Joan — For the life of me, this sounds like the love theme to a cheesy ’90s teen flick. I’m cool with that.

I really need to do some work on genres and subgenres. Glitch hop was a new one on me, too, but checking it out it goes all the way back to the 90s. Not surprised you linked an instrumental mix – I checked the vocal on YouTube and it’s… not good.

I have no idea about most of the billions of subgenres these days, except for avoiding ones that I’ve learned I don’t like (dubstep, trap, house).
