So why is our entire guild on a very tall hilltop overlooking Stormwind?
That’s a good question.
I’ve been guild shopping pretty hard over the past month in this game, trying out new ones every few days to see if it meets my needs and fits my personality. It’s more of a gut-check thing than anything else, but there are elements of needing it to be a good middling size, have people who actually talk and engage with each other, a spirit of generosity and helpfulness, and a playful attitude.
I bumped into a player the other day while questing, and after we helped each other reach an objective, I mentioned that I liked her guild name. She encouraged me to seek them out, and so I did — and I think I hit the jackpot. Everyone in this guild loves to chat, offer advice, and group up to run dungeons and the like.
But even better was the fact that the officers are very dedicated to running regular guild events, such as prize giveaways and games. By the third night, I was part of that group up there who had been summoned to a mountain to play “glide and seek.” Everyone was given one goblin glider and forbidden the use of flying mounts as they soared into Stormwind. The goal was to rush around and find eight raid symbols that had been dropped in hidden locations and then announce where they were when we found them.
The dozen or so of us tore up the streets and got crazy as we poked around every corner and searched every unikely nook and cranny. And let me tell you, after a decade and a half of growth, Stormwind has a LOT of nooks and crannies. I thought for sure that there would be a symbol down in the catacombs, but nope, I was out of luck.
Even though I didn’t win anything, it was still a hoot to be playing our own made-up game and seeing other guildies cross paths and shoo each other out of ponds and stores. If this is what it’s going to be like to be a part of this guild, then sign me up for the long haul!
