LOTRO: Huge Sale Incoming!

I wouldn’t normally post on sales in the LOTRO store, except this one is pretty notable if you’re a F2P player who’s buying their way up the zone quest pack ladder.  There’s a 24 hour sale starting at midnight that’s going to feature three zones — Lone-lands, Evendim and North Downs — for 75% off.  Considering that these three constitute the bulk of the 20-39 leveling track, it’s a great idea to snatch them up for a mere 386 TP total (that includes all three zones) versus the normal 1540 it would cost.

The crazy thing is that this deal literally pays for itself — if you do the deeds in these three zones, you’ll end up with 550 TP total, which means that you come out ahead on the deal.

Sorry if I sound like a salesperson, but really, if I was doing F2P, I’d be all over this in a heartbeat.

  1. So, I’m not sure exactly how this would work, but right now I’m still a subscriber (in the middle of a 3 month chunk) but I’m planning on downgrading to premium later. Is it possible to purchase these packs now so I have access to then later?

  2. As far as I’m aware, you can’t buy the packs while you’re a subscriber. My GF subscribed to DDO for a few months while they’re doubling the monthly stipend, and she couldn’t buy new adventure packs. It seemed that I couldn’t look at the prices of existing adventure packs on my subscriber account in LotRO, either.

I suspect this is a subtle way to make sure that you can’t just buy the packs on sale like this and eventually downgrade to premium. Just easier to keep subscribing….

  3. Thanks for the heads up! Having just bought a chunk of points that are intended to last more or less forever, stretching them out with sales like this is pretty important. Now I just have to remember to go do it!

  4. In general, I’m not too keen on trying to level as a non-subscriber due to the lack of rested exp and swift travel. At these prices, though, I can get Lone Lands and one of the other two zones without even putting any cash down, thanks to points I got from the new deeds in the patch. Almost seems a waste NOT to buy at this point.

Thanks for the tip, Sypster! 🙂

P.S. Yes, it’s an utter travesty that you can lose out on sales as a penalty for being a VIP subscriber.

  5. That really IS weird that you can’t buy packs when you’re a subscriber… huh. Never crossed my mind.

  6. You can get 400 pts for $6.50, right?

Even in my current jaded, MMO hatin’ state I don’t see a reason to pass this up.

This seems perfect for the player like me who might want to jump in the pool every once and awhile without having to invest in a monthly fee.

  7. This would be awesome news – if I wasn’t currently in the middle of 30 days of VIP as a result of applying a Mirkwood product key I had lying around that I’d never used.

  8. I did verify that as a current VIP, the quest pack section of the store effectively says “nothing for you here, move along.”

I can understand it may be a coding hassle, and probably makes more sense as a business decision, but it’s still disappointing that being a VIP precludes you from taking advantage of sales like this.

  9. Thanks for posting this! I would have totally missed it!! I am a returning LOTRO, and current FTP player. I had several points built up, but not enough to buy a zone I wanted. I purchased all three zones with a little grinding, and I’m going to roll an alt tonight!

  10. I recently started playing this game. I’m Air Force stationed in England right now. Everytime i try and buy points I get faud errors. tried paypal, credit and debit. I hope i can get it figured out ebfore this is over.

  11. Aww, I am so sad I missed this! I am already subbed to two other mmo’s so I have been trying to stick to premium on Lotro and would of loved to take advantage of this deal. Hopefully they do it again sometime.
