DDO Fail

So tonight we’re grouped up in DDO, doing one of the explorer areas, and we get so utterly lost that we decide to “deathport” back to town.  One hot jump into lava later, and we all pop up in our respective taverns, ready for Round 2.

All except our leader, Orvidos, who got sent aaaaaaall the way back to the very beginning of the tutorial.  As in, the very first thing you see when you start a new character.  We have no idea why it happened, although we suspected it was a combination of him using vet status (rolling a new character at level 4) and not having bound at a tavern yet.

There was much amusement in guild chat (except by him) that our group literally failed so badly that the game punished us by making our leader start the game over.

Bravo, Turbine.  That takes guts.

  1. I did not ‘lol’, let me tell ya. Still, nice to find such a massive bug this late in the game development.

    Never again!

  2. Yeah, I’ve taken advantage of that “bug” when starting a vet character in order to get the free acid handwraps from that 1st quest. I like them for killing oozes and slimes and they’re cheaper than buying Muckbane. And I never seem to find it, even on the rare occasions I can get Muck to spawn, so……. that’s why I’d look at buying.

  3. Lava – especially in the beginning of the Tempest Spine Raid is tricky. Be sure not to jump in the lava as you move through it as each jump is a save. if you run through the Lava you have a much better chance of surviving. Also stay out of the deep end of the lava as there is no life guard on duty. Sounds like your group is having a blast – no pun.

Wish the group was on Khyber server – would love to run on Wednesdays with the group.

  4. It is not a bug, he forgot to bind himself to any tavern. It has nothing to do with Vet status. DDO didn’t fail here, he did.

Roll up a character on Cannith! Get up to 3rd level and you’ll have little problem finding a group on Wednesdays. I have a solo character on Khyber myself (5 Ranger/ 2 Rogue currently), so you can have multiple characters on multiple servers. Plus, you can get the per-server DDO point awards on two different character.

The game did something unexpected and inappropriate: therefore, it IS a bug. It may be an easily avoidable bug if he had bound somewhere, but it is a bug.

I say this as a game developer who has fixed (and created) my share of bugs. 😛

  6. Suicide is not the answer. You are not Arlos. You have so much to live for! Just use the recall button. 😉

  7. Ok – rolled a Human Cleric June 1st on Cannith. Able to get to L2 before I had to log. Game name Lexfire Pius IV – LG can you guess.
